Solar panels capture energy from the sun and convert it into DC electricity. This is transmitted to an inverter that converts it into AC electricity which can be used by the home. Any excess electricity that is created is fed back into the grid causing the electricity meter to spin backwards. The energy companies buy this from you allowing you to become a mini clean and green power station.
