Installations

From purchase to installation

Congratulations on your decision to use clean, green, renewable energy and buy a solar power package from Beyond Building Energy. If you are yet to decide on which package to buy, go to our Packages page or visit the Buy Online link; alternatively you can use the link opposite.

Installing solar power in your home or business is a great way to show your commitment to an environmentally friendly future - but it is essential that you are aware that the process of solar installation and connection can be complicated. You may be required to liaise with a number of different parties, and the process is further complicated by guidelines and Feed-in-Tariffs that vary by state and territory. This can seem daunting, but choosing to install solar is a step in a positive direction for both the environment and your pocket, so we urge you not to lose sight of your original objectives. BBE will provide assistance and information to help guide you through this process.

Please be aware Beyond Building Energy is only responsible for installing the solar power system onto your roof and connecting the system to the inverter. Our qualified and accredited installers will complete the required paperwork at the completion of the installation.

Beyond Building Energy is not responsible (nor permitted) to connect your system to the electricity grid; this must be done by your electricity supplier. As the system owner you are responsible for authorising connection of your solar power system to the power grid. The Beyond Building Energy Customer Care Team (ph 1300 152 871) can assist you with this process, helping you to access to the appropriate forms, and navigate the connection process.

Your Solar install - whats next?

What happens next?

1. Customer Care will carry out a site inspection. We will first do a digital inspection (via Google Earth) and discuss position and roof space available. You will be taken through an Inspection Checklist to determine installation requirements. If any extra costs are likely they will be discussed with you at this stage (prior to installation). If a digital inspection is determined to be inappropriate we will discuss a suitable time for a physical onsite inspection to be carried out.

2. Installation date and time will be arranged; actual installation is carried out by an Accredited installer.

3. Necessary paperwork (forms) will need to be completed and return to Beyond Building Energy via email or Fax (07) 3319 7392. Beyond Building Energy will attach design drawings (along with any other requirements), and then submit your form/s to the appropriate electricity distributor.

4. Our Accredited Installer will be in contact to discuss any additional wiring that will need to be carried out prior to (and in order to complete) your installation. Additional wiring may be required if your home is more than 10 years old, or if your meter box needs upgrading. This arrangement will be between you and the Installer and falls outside of the Beyond Building Energy installation agreement.

5. Once the solar installation has been completed, the Installer will discuss your metering and electricity retailer requirements with you. Your Installer will then submit a completion certificate to the electricity distributor on your behalf.

6. You should be contacted automatically by your electricity distributor to discuss your connection arrangements and metering alterations; if you don't hear from then within 1 - 2 weeks, contact them directly to apply for a connection. (Please note your energy distributor and energy retailer are likely to be two different companies).

7. Once all the above forms are received by the electricity distributor, they will complete the change over of the meter and grid connection. You may need to arrange the services of a Level 2 Accredited Electrician for this stage. They will  notify your energy retailer to let them that you are now connected.

8. Your Installation is now complete, your house can begin using solar energy and you are now connected to the electricity network.

If you require assistance at any stage please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care team on 1300 152 871.

      Extra Costs

Depending on your roof type and aspect, extra costs could include any of the following:

      • a tilt kit - this is needed if you have a flat roof
      • safety scaffolding may be required for multi-storey building installations
      • cabling and trench digging may be required if your meter is a long distance from the installed system
      • security box (protects your inverter from water and tampering in exposed locations)
      • additional wiring may be required if your home is more than 10 years old

Note: Although we make every effort to ensure our Forms sections remain up to date, we are not responsible for out-of-date or incorrect forms or the delays they may incur. We encourage you to check with the Customer Services of the relevant energy distributor/retailer  or go directly to the provider's website to ensure you are completing the appropriate forms.

Conditions apply, refer to BBE Terms and Conditions. The final price quoted will be determined by: the cost of solar power system and installation, Solar Generation Unit (SGU) eligibility, REC ratings and postcode zones, assignment of RECs to Beyond Building Energy and full payment price before installation.
